Mullein Root (Verbascum Thapsis) Tincture

Mullein root is most widely known for its uses in respiratory illness, however it does have other uses.  Native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa mullein is naturalized and quite commonly found in North America and often used for its anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties.  In this tincture, the mullein root (verbascum thapsis) is extracted in vodka.

Commonly, this tincture can be used during the following ailments…

• Respiratory: supports the body in expelling mucous, and relieving inflammation in various respiratory ailments, it can also assist the body during coughing fits.

• Pain: supports the body in reducing inflammation especially in the joints, as well as nerve pain.

• Has also been known to assist the body in easing ear infections, reducing edema, and improving bladder health.

Lesser known uses for mullein…

• Support and assist with pain, helping to hydrate cartilage.
• Root specifically assisting the body in spinal integrity.

Dosage for this tincture, like all tinctures, is open to variation depending on the situation and should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

• This tincture is to be taken orally and may be taken plain under the tongue, or mixed into water, juice, or milk.
• Typically it is best to use only one or two drops of the tincture when taking for the first time, only increasing the dosage as needed or directed.

Contraindications…

• In cases of extreme lung congestion it may cause vomiting or even choking on the mucous.
