St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) Tincture

St. John’s wort is used for its antidepressant, antiviral, astringent, and anti-inflammatory properties.  While it is native to Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa and China, it has been widely naturalized throughout the world. It was a well known herb used in medieval times to treat depression and heal wounds, and has made a resurgence in popularity only in the past 35 years. In this tincture, the dried herb St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) is extracted in brandy.

Dosage

• This tincture is to be taken orally and may be taken plain under the tongue, or mixed into water, juice, or milk.
• Typically it is best to use only one or two drops of the tincture when taking for the first time, only increasing the dosage as needed or directed.

Contraindications…

• St. John’s Wort has a large number of drug interactions and should NOT be taken alongside drugs without a lengthy discussion with your healthcare provider.
• May cause photosensitivity.
